Dave Pratt was born in Fife in Scotland on 5th March 1896, and enjoyed a long playing career for Celtic, Bradford City, Liverpool and Bury before heading to Somerset to end his playing days. He was a left sided defender, who could also play in midfield. He moved in to management and had four successful years at the Huish, ending with him having the highest win percentage of any other Yeovil manager. He was the first of many managers from north of the border to find success in Somerset.
Dave won the Southern League Western Section in 1931/32, the Western League Division 1 title in 1929/30 and the Somerset Professional Cup in 1929/30. He certainly backed up his impressive win rate with silverware.
It was no surprise that his talents were in demand, and he left for Clapton Orient, before moving to Notts County, Heart of Midlothian, Bangor City and Port Vale, where he was manager in name only due to being unable to negotiate his release from the Royal Air Force. He died in 1967 aged 71 in Edinburgh.
