Steve Coles stepped up from the position of reserve team manager when Trevor Finnigan resigned. He immediately presided over a side low on confidence and goals that not only started scoring, but also winning. He was given the job to the end of the season. Sadly it was not to last and Yeovil won no games in April and plummeted to near the bottom of the table. There were a few glimmers of hope as the semi-finals of the Bob Lord Trophy (Alliance League Cup) were reached. After wins were achieved over Dagenham, Bath City and Kidderminster Harriers in earlier rounds, a two legged semi-final was reached against Scarborough. Sadly this was lost with the manager complaining of interference from the chairman. Mick Doherty scored 23 goals in 30 games, but it was only a case of staving off the inevitable, the curse of relegation.
