Harry Lowe arrived just before Christmas in 1951. The former Guildford City and Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic manager and Chelsea scout, had a difficult job on his hands to stop the slide that the club found themselves on. During his playing career he had only missed 1 game during a 3 year spell at Queens Park Rangers before the war interrupted his career. He was a policeman during the war, and a grocer in Bournemouth when he took the Yeovil job.
As money was tight he tried to get players from the untapped market of the armed services, signing players from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers at Honiton, Larkhill Barracks and The Royal Air Force. Towards the end of the 1952/53 season he announced he would not be seeking an extension to his contract, probably already aware that he wasn’t going to get one anyway!
